FHP GOVERNMENT PROPOSES END OF CHAMBER OF PEERS
Reform bill in the Assembly aims to expand freedoms and end the inactive Chamber of Peers
The Constitutional Reform and Amendment Act will required 2/3s of the Assembly to support to pass
Inside sources say support has been secured from the SDLA and the PLC for the bill, putting it at 2/3s

CÁRDENAS, FCD – A government bill currently under debate in the Federal Assembly aims to reform the Proclamation of Punta Santiago to get rid of the Chamber of Peers and add new rights and liberties.

The bill comes forward as the FHP government and several other parties have been increasingly frustrated with the slowness and inactivity of the Chamber of Peers, where several pieces of legislation have been languishing before making them into law.

The proposal was welcomed across the board by many political parties, leaders, and activists. The current leader of the SDLA, Deputy Benito Arboleda, feels that the Chamber of Peers is “purposeless and an obstruction to the will of the people.”

Bringing the Chamber of Peers to an end and an expansion of rights and liberties has long been at the center of the Federal Consensus Party’s platform. The proposal was welcomed by the FC leader, Yuri Allcca Canchasto, adding, “This proposal is the culmination of our work in lobbying and fighting for a more democratic and egalitarian Federation.” He went further to express his displeasure at the limited expansion of liberties, saying “This bill can go farther - the proposals by our party colleague Deputy Alfons Dandela to include vital social and civil liberties should be included in these reforms and we will oppose this bill if they are not added.”

Sources in the high leadership of the Federal Humanist Party and the Social Democratic & Liberal Alliance confirm that both parties will vote for the reforms as it stands to end the government gridlock. With the support of the two major parties, the reforms are likely to reach the necessary threshold of two-thirds for the amendments to be added to the Proclamation of Punta Santiago.}}
